3 Ways to Guarantee You Get a Great Massage
3 Things You Can Do To Guarantee A Great Massage
1. Use your *me* time wisely
Scheduling your appointment is a good first step. But more important, is choosing a time that allows you to arrive early AND have time after to enjoy the benefits of your treatment. Scheduling after work is a great idea, but remember to build in plenty of time for travel, parking, and a minute or two to decompress prior to your service. The value and benefits of the massage will increase tenfold, if you have time to breathe and connect with your body.
Speaking of value, a massage session is a great time to check in with your mind body connection. Using the time before your session to scan your emotional state, how it may be affecting your body, and what you want to let go, will create a healthy space for you to release stored tension. It's your time, use it wisely.
I respect your time and will be ready for you. I look forward to hearing about your goals prior to your treatment. I check in on your comfort and ask if I can adjust anything during your session once or twice. I match your level of chattiness and want you to feel relaxed. Let me know how I can help.
2. Talk to your massage therapist
Communication is the key. Don't assume your therapist knows your likes and dislikes or how a particular technique is feeling for you. Ticklish toes? No oil in your hair today? Just want to focus on your low back pain? Feeling chilly half-way through your massage? Not loving the direct pressure on your hamstrings? You should feel comfortable to discuss your goals prior to and during your session.
If it's your first session with me, I'll take some time to ask you a lot about your likes and dislikes. I love creating customized treatments, so this part is important to me. It's ok if you don't know. We can adjust during the session. I work to keep my clients completely comfortable on the table. From room temperature to pressure, my spa background has trained me to be aware of the details. I have 10+ years of experience and techniques to create a treatment that is beneficial for you. Have other questions? I'm open to listening and discussing your concerns.
3. Tune in and let go
A massage is a great way to create more body awareness. Noticing tension and normal range of motion can help prevent injuries in the future. Tune in to how your body works, what patterns it has, and what you do regularly to create those patterns. Then, relax! Practicing to relax is just as important as any other activity with your body. Letting your limbs be heavy and unguarded can be challenging, but it's the best way receive bodywork. Practice letting go.
As a massage therapist, one of my goals is to get your nervous system to slow down, so you can be in a restful state. I incorporate relaxing elements into every massage, As your body relaxes, its chemistry changes by releasing less of the stress hormone, cortisol. Your body can now physically begin to let go of stored tension. Once you've settled in, we can begin the work of helping your body find balance. If one side is tight, then the other side is probably over stretched to accommodate the tightness. I'll work with the patterns in your body and coax your muscles back to their healthy length and function.
Massage is more than a luxury, it's the ultimate self-care multitasker. I'm honored to work with you as you take time to connect and renew your mind and body. The time spent can help you be the best version of yourself.
Take some time and fill your well first.
